Ethyl pyruvate Applications
Ethyl pyroracemate has a good effect on inhibiting the formation of tyrosinase in the epidermis, thus preventing the formation of epidermal melanin and whitening the skin. It can also be added as an effective active ingredient to air fresheners, which can effectively remove ammonia and methyl mercaptan in the air, and the smell is fresh and natural. Ethyl pyruvate has excellent performance in forming heterocyclic compounds, and is a difficult substitute for raw materials and intermediates in the synthesis of pesticides. It is widely used in the synthesis of fungicides and herbicides, and oxazolone derivatives synthesized from ethyl pyruvate. It is also a good fungicide, which can effectively inhibit and kill fungi at a concentration of 5.0×10-4.
It can be used in food flavors such as caramel, brandy, alcohol, rum, chocolate. It is used in the manufacture of medicines, sputum and thiabendazole.
Production method
It is prepared by direct esterification of pyruvic acid with absolute ethanol at boiling temperature, followed by vacuum distillation, or by oxidation of ethyl lactate in the presence of V2O5 at 155 °C.
